Alumni Services Library Guide: Law Library Access Policies

Access During COVID

Online resources previously available to alums prior to COVID are now limited to current Loyola students, faculty, and staff.  Check back here for updates on access to online resources.

Access to Electronic Resources

Due to contract restrictions, some of the electronic legal research databases - including Lexis and Westlaw - are available only to current students, faculty, and staff of Loyola University Chicago's School of Law.

Online resources previously available to alums prior to COVID are now restricted to current students, faculty, and staff.

Alumni Access to the Law Library

Admittance to the library requires an alumni card, a photo Id., and signing the guest log. To request an alumni card, visit the LUC Alumni Office website.

Checking out any materials from the Law Library requires an additional card, which can be obtained at the Law Library's circulation desk.  (Please note: this differs from the procedure used to check materials out from the LUC University Libraries.)

The following services are not available to alums:

  • Alums do not have interlibrary loan privileges
  • Alums cannot reserve study rooms
  • Alums are not permited to bring guests into the Law Library

Alumni Access to Other LUC Libraries

As a Law School alum you also have access to LUC's University Libraries.  Alumni will be admitted to the Lewis Library on the Water Tower campus and the Cudahy Library and Klarchek Information Commons on the Lakeshore campus by presenting their LUC alumni card and a government-issued photo ID.  For more complete information, see the Law School's Alumni Relations page on obtaining an Alumni Library Card for use at the University Libraries.

Restricted Access

Restricted access occurs during the weeks immediately preceding and during Law School exams so current law students can have undisturbed access to the Law Library and its resources.  Alumni are not admitted into the Law Library during restricted access.  To find out whether the Law Library is on restricted access, go to the current calendar.  Alternatively, you can call the Circulation Desk at 312-915-6986.
