Elder Law Research Guide: Books

This guide presents the sources of law most often encountered in problems or disputes pertaining to the elderly.

Finding Books on Elder Law

On this page, you will find a selection of elder law titles available at the Loyola University Libraries. To find more elder law books in Loyola's collection, please use Loyola's online catalog. If you have questions about subject searching in the catalog, please ask a reference librarian for help. To find books outside the Loyola University Chicago libraries, use the WorldCat database, linked on the Law Library home page (valid Loyola ID and password required).

Many of the elder law books are located on the 5th floor of the law library, in call number range KF 390.  Illinois elder law publications are shelved on the 3rd floor at KFI 1291. Use the subject catalog to find materials beyond simple browsing, since call numbers can vary, depending on the specific subject matter within a single volume or series. Titles at all Loyola University libraries can be located via the catalog. When a publication is offered online, a link to the Loyola online subscription is provided in the catalog record.  Some online links require passwords. depending on the source.

Some Library of Congress subject headings for elder law are:  Aged--United States--legislation. Elder Abuse--prevention and control--United States.  Legal Guardians--United States--legislation. Older People--Legal status, laws, etc.--United States. Older people--Care--United States. Health Services for the Aged--legislation and jurisprudence--United States. Geriatrics--legislation and jurisprudence--United States.

Illinois Practice Materials

Publications of the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE) are available in print in the Law Library's 3rd floor Reference area (non-circulating). IICLE publications are also available electronically via Loyola's subscription to the IICLE Online Library (see "Databases" tab for links). Access to the IICLE Online Library is available only from on-campus computers and only to members of the Loyola Chicago Law School community.
